Product review
What you receive: one live Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus). Each plant is grown in a controlled greenhouse environment in Texas and inspected prior to shipping to ensure health and vigor.
Care and environment: This species is suitable for beginners. It prefers low to moderate lighting, does well without CO2 supplementation, and thrives in water temperatures between 68 and 82°F. It is slow to moderate growing and tolerates a wide range of water conditions.
Usage and placement: Java Fern is ideal for anchoring to driftwood, cholla, or smooth rock using thread or glue. Place it in the midground or background of aquariums; it’s compatible with planted tanks, community tanks, shrimp colonies, and breeding setups.
Packaging and shipping: Plants are packed using insulated materials and, when necessary, heat or cold packs to protect them in transit. The packing method aims to minimize stress so specimens arrive ready to be tied or mounted in your aquarium.
Origin note: These plants are cultivated in a family-run greenhouse in Terrell, Texas, where they are grown and inspected on-site before being dispatched.
Pros
- Low maintenance and low-light tolerant
- Attaches easily to wood and rock
- Suitable for a variety of aquarium types
Cons
- Can arrive lacking visible roots on occasion
- Slow growth rate compared with stem plants
- Fragile leaves can sustain transit damage
VerdictA resilient, low-effort aquatic fern that adapts well to low light and moderate temperatures (68–82°F). It arrives ready to attach to wood or rock and performs well in community, planted, and shrimp tanks. Most customers receive healthy specimens, though some shipments lack visible roots. Good choice for newcomers and experienced hobbyists seeking a dependable midground/background plant.

Pleased with arrival
Just got mine — came alive and attractive.

Arrived in poor shape
I wish I had taken a photo. It looked okay at first glance but had no roots — just six leaves tied together and already declining. The listing showed a fuller, bareroot plant with more than ten leaves, which mine did not match. Very disappointing compared to the photos.

Vibrant and healthy
Arrived with roughly 16–18 leaves and several new shoots. I’ll mount it on cholla wood — should look great.
