Product review

Each order contains three pots holding a combined 6–9 live Echinodorus Bleheri specimens, bare-rooted for planting.

Echinodorus Bleheri is a robust sword-type aquatic plant valued for background coverage; mature leaves can become quite large, making it suitable for medium to large aquariums.

A nutrient-rich substrate encourages steady growth. While the plants endure a variety of lighting levels, moderate to high illumination produces fuller, faster development. CO2 injection is optional and will speed growth if you choose to use it.

These plants can be cultivated both submerged or emersed; when grown emersed they may produce white flowers above the waterline.

Substrate Source inspects each plant before shipment and packages them to minimize transit stress, aiming for safe arrival with intact roots and foliage.

Plant by spacing crowns in the background, gently burying roots in substrate and trimming older leaves as needed; regular fertilization and adequate light will keep them thriving.

Pros

  • Provides excellent background coverage
  • Tolerant of varied lighting with optional CO2
  • Inspected and securely packaged before shipping

Cons

  • Can outgrow small aquariums
  • Performs best with nutrient substrate and stronger light
  • Individual vigor may vary between specimens

VerdictThese Bleheri sword plants arrive healthy and ready to fill the rear of a planted tank. They tolerate a range of lighting and will grow large with room and nutrients. Shipment and packing are reliable, and most specimens establish quickly once planted.

Customer reviews

  1. Melanie Johnson 5/5

    Very satisfied

Works great in my tank. The plants look healthy and I would definitely buy again.

  2. Alice 4/5

    Good overall quality

Pleased with the purchase. Of five plants I ordered, four are thriving so far. No snails found and I’ll order more.

  3. Carolinski 5/5

    Arrived healthy and full

Bought a three-pack of different sword varieties. They arrived live, full, and in great condition. I’ve purchased plants locally before, and I’ll order from this seller again when I add more.

  4. Shawna M Murphy 5/5

    Bright, fun background plant

Nice live plant for my freshwater tank. One clump could be split but I left it intact for a fuller look. It arrived moist and went straight into the aquarium, where it has stayed healthy and bright green. Fish enjoy swimming and hiding among the leaves.

  5. Samantha 5/5

    Impressed with quality

Beautiful, healthy specimens. I couldn’t find similar quality locally so I took a chance—very glad I did. They arrived gorgeous and transformed my betta tank. Will definitely order again.

  6. just me 5/5

    Healthy bunch with fast growth

Ordered one bunch and received three plants as a nice bonus. They had roots and after a few days showed fresh growth with no melting. Very happy with the results.

  7. MiaBell 5/5

New growth in under a week

It arrived a couple days early and sat in a hot mailbox but mostly survived—only one leaf needed removal. No pests, roots were long and white. In under a week leaves stretched out and a new central shoot appeared. My tetras love hiding in the foliage.

  8. jamnorthwest 5/5

    Solid purchase, very pleased

I’d tried plants from several vendors before with mixed results. Nearly two months after ordering three different plants from Substrate Source, all arrived healthy and show little die-back. Packaging and care notes were good. The sword is a bit less vigorous than my other two plants but continues to produce new leaves and is doing fine.
