Product review
This ear tag marking pen is supplied with one marker body and two interchangeable tips: a fine point for small, precise characters and a broader tip for thicker, high‑visibility marks. Replacement tips are included and are designed to be simple to swap when the original wears.
The ink is a specially formulated black dye intended to penetrate TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) tag material. That penetration helps the writing resist rubbing, rain, and sunlight so numbers and codes stay readable for extended periods. The manufacturer advises against using the pen on ear tags made from non‑TPU materials, where adhesion and durability are not guaranteed.
The marker is described as waterproof once dry and safe for use around animals; the ink chemistry is chosen to avoid harm to livestock. Typical uses include marking cattle ear tags, sheep or goat tags, hoof boots, plastic plant markers, and other TPU identification items. For best results, prime the tip when first used and allow markings to dry fully before exposing tagged animals to heavy moisture or abrasion.
Pros
- Penetrating, fade-resistant black ink
- Includes both fine and broad replaceable tips
- Waterproof and animal-safe once dry
Cons
- Only effective on TPU material tags
- May need priming and occasional shaking
- Mild odor while wet
VerdictA practical marker made specifically for TPU ear tags. The ink soaks into tag material for durable, waterproof identification that stands up to weather and handling. It includes both a fine and a broad tip to suit different marking needs and is labeled non‑hazardous for animal use. Not suitable for non‑TPU tags; performance drops on other plastics.

Marks plastic and stays put
Tried it on various plastics; once the ink dried it didn’t smear when rubbed. The fine tip makes neat characters that are readable from a distance.

Does the job
Used these on tags for several months — still bright and easy to read.

Durable after a quick start
Needed to press the tip a couple times to get ink flowing, then it wrote smoothly. We've used it on hoof boots that see mud and lots of rubbing and the marks have held up. Ink is clear and durable; I’ll try it on plant labels too.

Bold, quick-drying marks
Great for refreshing livestock tags. The black lays down smoothly, dries fast, and produces bold, readable numbers that resist outdoor exposure.

Works well for garden and animals
Also bought for garden tags — so far it outlasts other markers. Packaged well, sturdy feel, writes dark in small areas and has a mild smell until dry.

Can be streaky after extended use
Started out smooth but became streakier the more I wrote unless I capped, shook and rested it. A different pen I have stays a bit darker, but this one writes nicely when kept active with breaks.

Dependable TPU ear tag pen
Perfect for making matching cow‑to‑calf tags. The ink penetrates TPU, stays waterproof, and isn’t harmful to animals. Fine and broad tips make neat or bold markings as needed.
