What’s included: one pair of Solus 2000 Series safety glasses (Shade 5.0 gray IR lens) with black/green temples. Some variants ship with a removable foam-lined gasket; certain SKUs feature 3M Scotchgard Anti-Fog coating.
Construction and materials: Lenses are U6-rated polycarbonate engineered to absorb 99.9% of UVA, UVB and UVC wavelengths from 200 nm to 380 nm. Frames are molded polymer with padded temple surfaces and a soft nose area for extended comfort. Select models include a foam gasket that clips into the frame to reduce dust and debris ingress.
Fit and adjustment: The Solus 2000 introduces a multi-position ratchet in the temples so the lens angle and clearance can be tuned for facial contours or to fit over corrective eyewear. Padded temple arms and the soft nose section aim to lower pressure points during prolonged wear.
Optical and coating options: Gray IR lenses maintain truer color perception versus green IR lenses, useful when color differentiation matters. Models with Scotchgard Anti-Fog coating resist fogging longer than conventional anti-fog treatments and add durable scratch resistance; 3M internal testing shows extended performance after multiple water wash cycles. Many models are available with various tints and removable gasket accessories.
Safety and use: These spectacles meet the Impact-Rated Protector requirement of the ANSI-ISEA Z87.1-2020 standard for eye protection. They are intended for industrial and occupational applications—plasma cutting, welding prep, machining, outdoor work and similar environments—and are not marketed for general consumer use.
Pros
- Adjustable ratchet temples for a customized fit
- U6 polycarbonate lenses block 99.9% of 200–380 nm UV/IR
- Impact-rated with optional Scotchgard anti-fog and scratch resistance
Cons
- Shade 5.0 may be too dark for some tasks or indoor use
- Removable foam gasket and anti-fog coating are model-dependent
- One-piece molded nose/lens area can be prone to cracking in some cases
VerdictA durable, professional safety spectacle built for bright arc work and outdoor glare. The Shade 5.0 gray polycarbonate lens gives strong IR/UV protection while preserving color better than green IR tints. Adjustable ratchet temples and optional foam gasket improve fit and seal; select models add Scotchgard anti-fog and abrasion resistance. Suited to industrial and occupational tasks where impact r

Very dark — better for outdoor use
Extremely tinted; they cover your vision fully and feel like heavy-duty safety glasses. If you need IR blocking they're effective, but indoors they may be too dark for regular tasks.

They do the job
Perform well overall. They fog a bit on cool mornings but clear quickly. The frame adjustment can be fiddly at times.

Darker than advertised lately
These don't feel like a true Shade 5 now—more like a 3.5–4. I used to rely on them for heavy cutting but recent pairs seem lighter in tint.

Reliable protection for plasma cutting
I bought these for plasma work and they shield the arc well without blocking detail. Comfortable for long shifts, light and secure. The anti-scratch finish stands up to shop use. Good fit and solid construction—would recommend for bright cutting jobs.

Customer Review 4/5
Great for bright conditions, minor durability issue
Perfectly dark for outdoor and bright work, fits well under helmets and stays put. The ratchet adjustment is handy. My only gripe is the molded nose area cracked in spots; otherwise very satisfied.
