Product review
Construction and materials:
The cutter’s body is crafted from a hardened aluminum alloy for strength without excessive weight. The cutting blade is a 2.5 mm SK5 steel blade that has been precision ground and coated with Teflon to reduce friction and sticking while cutting.
Cutting capacity and compatible pipes:
Designed to cut tubing and pipe up to 1-5/8 inches (42 mm) outer diameter. It works with PVC, CPVC, PEX, PP-R, PE and rubber hose, making it suitable for plumbing, HVAC, automotive hoses and general DIY projects.
Ergonomics and mechanism:
A ratcheting drive and an arched cutting angle let you advance the blade in controlled steps, requiring less hand force compared with a simple shear. The spring-loaded handles give a secure grip and help return the tool to the open position after each cut. There’s a safety latch on the tool to lock the jaws closed when not in use.
Blade replacement and extras:
This model features a quick-change blade system that allows blade swaps in roughly ten seconds without extra tools. The package includes one replacement blade so you have a spare ready when the primary edge dulls.
Warranty and support:
A 12-month warranty is provided and the manufacturer offers product support to address fitment or operational questions, aiming to ensure customer satisfaction.
Pros
- High-strength aluminum alloy body
- Thick SK5 Teflon-coated blade for clean cuts
- Quick-change blade system with spare blade
Cons
- Release mechanism takes practice
- Small retention pin can loosen if not checked
- Not ideal for very thick, rigid PVC
VerdictA robust, user-friendly ratchet cutter for home and trade use that handles a range of plastic pipes (PVC, CPVC, PEX, PP-R, PE and rubber hose) up to 1-5/8" (42 mm). The cast aluminum alloy frame and thick SK5 cutting blade deliver stable, accurate slices. The ratcheting drive and spring-loaded handles reduce hand strain, and the quick-change blade system plus spare blade extend service life. Minor

Reliable tool for service vans
Great pick for trade vehicles. Ensures straight, accurate cuts which is useful when training apprentices and reducing material waste. Simple to measure and cut on site.

Not perfectly straight but acceptable
Faster and cleaner than a saw for 2" PVC, though the cut can be slightly off-square. Good enough for many jobs where perfection isn’t critical.

Solid cutter for occasional jobs
Well-built and reliable for home use. Made trimming an old garden hose quick and easy. Feels stable and cuts cleanly. Took a moment to learn the release—blade needs prying open after each cut. The ratchet reduces effort and the extra blade is handy.

First-timer learning curve
My first cutter and I struggled a bit getting it open and reassembling after following the box photos, but it now works correctly and performs well.

Handy plumbing kit component, know its limits
A complete, value-oriented cutter that excels on PEX and thinner plastic pipes, leaving neat, square edges. The spring handle reduces fatigue and the included spare blade is useful. It manages thin PVC but don’t force it through thicker rigid pipe.

Very sharp, clean slices
Cuts exceptionally well with a sharp, clean edge. I used it on 1½" and 2" pipe. Took a minute to learn the release, but performance is excellent even with infrequent use.

Stopped retracting — fixed after troubleshooting
Blade stopped retracting after a few cuts, which caused a work delay. I discovered a small black pin on the side can come loose; re-seating it restored function. Once the pin was secure, the cutter worked well. Important to check that pin.

Great for PVC and heating pipe
Cuts through PVC and underfloor heating tubing smoothly. Leaves a clean, burr-free edge.
