Product review
Origami has long been an artistic and symbolic craft, used for everything from playful figures to ceremonial senbazuru (strings of a thousand cranes) offered in times of sorrow. This pack supplies the paper foundation for those projects.
Contents: 40 sheets total — 20 patterned Yuzen/Chiyogami printed washi and 20 plain solid-color washi sheets (the solid sheets are colored on both faces). Each square measures 100 x 100 mm (3.93 x 3.93 in).
Material and origin: The paper is Mino washi, a traditional handmade paper produced in Gifu prefecture, Japan. Mino washi received recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014. Made from natural plant fibers by experienced artisans, this paper is prized for its longevity; well-crafted washi can resist rapid deterioration for centuries compared with chemically-processed papers.
Feel and use: The patterned sheets have bright pigments and often include metallic highlights that catch light, while the solids have a soft, cloth-like texture. The paper is thicker and more robust than standard copy paper yet remains pliable enough for detailed folds. It’s suited to a range of applications: classic origami animals and figures, decorative lanterns and paper lights, collage overlays on watercolor, wearable crafts like earrings, and ceremonial or therapeutic folding projects.
Care: Because the sheets are made from natural fibers without heavy whitening agents, they age differently than modern wood-pulp papers. Handle gently to preserve printed surfaces and metallic accents; the material is resilient against small dents and can often spring back after gentle reshaping.
Pros
- Authentic Mino washi with long-lasting fiber
- Vivid patterned sheets with metallic highlights
- Solids are double-sided and versatile
Cons
- Only half of the pack is patterned
- Softer texture can be trickier for very tiny folds
- Single sheet of each patterned design in the set
VerdictA high-quality set of Mino washi squares that balance durability with foldability. The patterned Yuzen sheets offer vivid motifs and often metallic accents, while the solid sheets are double-sided and versatile. Excellent for lampshades, decorative cranes, collage work and detailed models; note that only half the pack is patterned.

Lovely patterns
Absolutely gorgeous designs; the prints are vivid and elegant.

Excellent texture for mixed-media
The sheets feel almost fabric-like rather than flimsy paper. Colors are bright and will be great for collages over watercolor. Size is about 4 inches square, so plan accordingly.

Cranes look great
I enjoy using these for cranes — they hold form and look attractive when completed.

Great for tiny jewelry pieces
I cut these into 1-inch squares to make origami earrings. The paper is soft so small folds can be fiddly, but it hardens with a glossy finish that holds shape and looks polished. Wish there were multiple copies of each design, but the quality and gold edging make them worth repurchasing.

Authentic Mino paper — familiar and satisfying
Having lived in Tokyo, I recognized the quality right away. The set alternates patterned and plain colored sheets; the wash-style designs are lovely and the rest are solid colors. I’m planning a visit to Mino to see the paper-making tradition in person.

Easy folding, pretty finish
Nice paper that folds smoothly and presents a beautiful surface.

Not all patterned — check the mix
Quality is high and the plain sheets are colored on both sides, which is useful. My only frustration was expecting all patterned sheets; the pack contains 20 patterned and 20 solid pages. Still keeping them because the paper itself is excellent.

Premium-weight washi with resilient folds
I’ve bought many Yuzen/Chiyogami packs for making paper lanterns and decorative pieces. These sheets are thicker than ordinary origami paper but still fold cleanly. They withstand light pokes and can often be reshaped without tearing, which matters when pieces are handled or displayed. The printing and inks hold up when backlit — cheaper papers tend to wash out under internal light, but these retain strong color and saturation.

Good for general crafts, limited for eggs
Patterned pieces are attractive, but because every other sheet is a solid, it doesn’t work as well for projects needing many patterned sheets like washi eggs.
