A green Christmas tree with green ornaments, beaded garland and green ribbon. A beautiful way to decorate a flocked Pencil tree.

Pencil trees are my favorite option when space is tight or when you want multiple trees throughout the house. This year I chose a deep green theme, pairing a green flocked pencil tree with rich green ribbon and ornaments. The dark green pops beautifully against the white flocking and creates a cohesive, elegant look.
The flocked pencil tree I used is from King of Christmas; I purchased it on an after-Christmas sale a few years ago. Having this slim tree lets me place two trees in the room without taking up much floor space—the pencil tree tucks perfectly into a corner and complements the main tree.
I’ve been swapping traditional tree skirts for tree collars recently. A seagrass collar works great with a pencil tree and gives a clean, natural base. If you’re considering a collar instead of a skirt, a simple seagrass option is an ideal size and adds texture without overwhelming the tree.

Green Christmas Tree Decorations
Finding deep green decorations was easier than I expected. The white flocking highlights the greens and makes the ornaments stand out. I used green pinecone ornaments and darker green glass balls, then layered in wooden ornaments and beaded garland for contrast. Mixing materials—glass, wood, and beads—adds depth and warmth while keeping the palette cohesive.
To balance the green tones, I added small accents of gold and natural wood. Those subtle touches bring warmth and a finished feel without competing with the main color. The varied textures draw the eye and make the tree interesting close up and from a distance.

Adding Ribbon to your Christmas Tree
On a full-size tree I usually weave long lengths of ribbon, but with a pencil tree that approach can overwhelm the slim silhouette. Instead I cut ribbon into roughly one-foot strips and tucked them into the branches. This technique keeps the ribbon visible without overpowering the tree and gives a crisp, intentional look.
The ribbon I used is a wired, deep green with a subtle pattern. At 2.5 inches wide and about 25 feet per roll, one roll was more than enough for the pencil tree. Using shorter strips minimizes bulk while still providing the texture and richness ribbon brings to a design.

Tree Topper
Choosing the right topper is all about scale. For this pencil tree I picked a modestly sized Kurt Adler topper that complements the tree without looking oversized. I prefer toppers that feel intentional rather than overly commercial; if I can reuse or repurpose something—like a large ornament or wall hanging turned star—I often do.
On my main, larger tree I use a repurposed star ornament that I modified into a topper, which keeps each tree distinctive while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic across the room.

Put a Bird on it
Bird ornaments are a sentimental touch for me—my parents always had two white doves connected by a ring on their tree—so I like to add at least one bird to each tree. This year I placed a beautiful owl ornament near the top of the pencil tree. Birds add a charming, nostalgic detail that feels personal and classic.

Overall, I love how this emerald green pencil tree complements my main teal tree. Sticking to a mostly monochromatic palette for the pencil tree allowed it to shine on its own while avoiding clashes with the larger tree. The result is a layered, harmonious holiday display that feels curated and cozy.
