Recently we made cork-and-clothespin nutcracker ornaments and even a wine cork menorah. Those projects were so popular that we kept going, and the result is this pair of sweet little Santa faces made from corks.

We don’t drink wine nonstop — a generous friend dropped off a large bucket of corks for craft use at the daycare, and they’ve been invaluable. Beyond ornaments, we use corks in sensory bins, for stamping, and in other simple classroom projects.
They’re practical and fun to work with, and they give each finished piece a rustic, homey feel.

This project creates a “double Santa” ornament: two little Santa heads glued together and suspended from a single piece of metallic thread so they can hang neatly from a tree branch, a cabinet knob, or a gift bottle neck.

I actually hung a pair on a china cabinet knob for a few days, and they looked delightful there as everyday holiday accents.
Give as an add-on with a bottle of wine!
These wine cork Santas make charming, low-cost add-ons when you gift a bottle of wine. They dress up the gift and add a personal, handcrafted touch that recipients really appreciate.
If you enjoy making small gift accents, consider pairing the cork Santas with painted wine bottles or repurposed bottles turned into candle holders for a coordinated, handmade present set.

Supplies:
- 2 wine corks
- Red paint and flesh-coloured (skin-tone) paint
- Clear craft varnish (optional)
- Small pom pom for the hat top
- Cotton balls for trim and beard
- Googly eyes
- Small craft gem or small red bead for the nose
- Metallic thread, twine, or thin ribbon for hanging

How to Make Wine Cork Santas:
- Paint the top half of each cork red for the hat and the bottom half a flesh-colour for the face. Let the paint dry completely.
- If desired, apply a thin coat of clear craft varnish over the painted corks to add shine and protect the paint. Let it dry.
- Glue a small pom pom to the tip of each painted hat to create the hat’s fluff.
- Stretch and flatten a cotton ball, then glue a strip across the bottom of each hat to form the hat trim.
- Glue two small googly eyes onto each cork for the eyes. Use a small craft gem or a tiny red bead as the nose.
- Pull apart another cotton ball and glue it under the nose to form a fluffy beard. Shape it gently so it looks even and full.
- To make a double ornament, attach the two finished Santas together: glue the hanging thread or metallic loop to the top of each hat, or glue the tops of the corks together with a short length of thread secured between them so they hang side by side.

These Santa cork ornaments are quick to make, cheerful, and kid-friendly. They’re a lovely way to upcycle corks and add handmade charm to your holiday décor or gift wrapping. Cheers and happy crafting!
