If you enjoy this recipe, I also have other keto-friendly Christmas desserts, such as a keto pavlova and a keto egg nog. These recipes help keep holiday traditions alive while staying aligned with low-carb goals.

I created a full video course called “A Very Keto Christmas” that guides you through preparing a complete keto holiday menu, including a three-course feast. The course shows step-by-step video instruction, a full recipe book, a combined shopping list, and a suggested cooking order so you can prepare a memorable meal with confidence. The course is based on an actual keto Christmas dinner prepared for friends, and it demonstrates practical timing and plating techniques that work for home cooks.

What the course includes:

  • Over 90 minutes of recipe videos
  • Complete keto Christmas recipe book
  • All-in-one shopping list
  • Suggested menu and presentation ideas
  • Cooking order and overview to streamline preparation
  • Video of a full keto Christmas dinner with non-keto guests

Keto Rum Balls

Rum balls are a classic festive treat and this keto version preserves the rich chocolate and coconut flavors while using low-carb ingredients. I often make spiced rum versions for extra depth; something like a spiced dark rum complements the cocoa and coconut nicely. These rum balls are very quick to assemble — you can mix, roll, and chill them in about 20 minutes, making them perfect for last-minute entertaining or an easy addition to a dessert platter.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Almond Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 Cup shredded coconut
  • 2 Tsp low-carb sweetener (such as Natvia or Swerve)
  • 60 ml Rum (about 2 oz) — use spiced rum if you prefer

Instructions

  1. Combine the cocoa powder, coconut oil, almond flour, coconut flour, heavy cream, shredded coconut, sweetener, and rum in a mixing bowl. Stir until a sticky, moldable mixture forms. If the mixture becomes too loose or sloppy (this can happen in warm kitchens), add a little more almond flour to achieve a firmer texture.
  2. Form the mixture into small balls using your hands. Roll each ball in extra shredded coconut to coat. For finer coconut coating, pulse shredded coconut in a small blender or food processor before rolling.
  3. Place the rum balls on a plate or tray and refrigerate for at least 10–15 minutes to firm up. Serve chilled and store leftovers in the refrigerator.
