These cheeseburger egg rolls combine well-seasoned ground beef and melty cheddar wrapped in an ultra-crispy shell. They deliver all the flavors of a cheeseburger in a fun, handheld form—perfect when you can’t decide between fast food and a Chinese takeout favorite.

I love reimagining classic dishes as egg rolls. After making Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, avocado egg rolls, buffalo chicken egg rolls, and taco egg rolls, these bacon cheeseburger egg rolls were the next delicious experiment. They capture everything you love about a cheeseburger—savory seasoned beef, crisp bacon, ketchup and mustard notes, and gooey cheddar—wrapped in an egg roll wrapper. Serve them as an appetizer for a party or game day, or make them the main course for a quick, satisfying dinner.
Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips
- To prevent greasy egg rolls, choose lean ground beef. I use 90% lean for the best texture. If you have 80/20, be sure to drain excess fat thoroughly before filling the wrappers.
- Hamburger seasoning adds authentic burger flavor—store-bought blends work well or you can use a homemade mix if you prefer.
- For convenience, microwave bacon works great: it crisps quickly and is easy to crumble into the filling.
- Egg roll wrappers are often found near tofu or in the refrigerated produce section at most grocery stores. Keep them covered as you work so they don’t dry out.

Tips and Tricks
- Don’t overfill: Use 3–4 tablespoons of filling per wrapper. Overstuffing makes rolling difficult and increases the chance the wrapper will split while frying.
- Use a thermometer: A deep-fry thermometer helps keep the oil at the proper temperature so the rolls turn golden and crispy without becoming greasy.
- Fry in small batches: Avoid overcrowding the pan. Adding too many at once drops the oil temperature and can make egg rolls soggy.
- If you need help folding, follow a short visual tutorial for rolling egg rolls; practicing a couple of times makes assembly faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
A simple fry sauce (mayonnaise mixed with ketchup and a touch of Worcestershire and paprika) pairs nicely, but feel free to use cheese sauce, ketchup and mustard, or ranch—anything you enjoy on a burger will work for dipping.
Yes, you can bake them for a lighter version, but they won’t be as crisp as when deep-fried. Brush them with oil and bake on a hot sheet for best results.

Cheeseburger Egg Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 sweet onion, diced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 4 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- 1/2 cup water (for sealing wrappers)
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and ground beef; cook until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is tender.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and hamburger seasoning. Fold in crumbled bacon and mix well.
- Lay an egg roll wrapper in a diamond shape. Place 3–4 tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center and top with shredded cheddar.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold the left and right corners inward and roll tightly toward the top corner to seal.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry egg rolls in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until evenly golden brown and crisp.
- Drain the cooked egg rolls on paper towels.
- Whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika for the dipping sauce. Serve warm with the egg rolls.
Notes
Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips
- Choose lean ground beef (90% lean recommended) to keep fillings from becoming greasy. If using fattier beef, drain well.
- Use a prepared hamburger seasoning or make your own blend to taste.
- Microwave bacon is an easy way to get crisp bacon quickly; crumble before adding to the meat mixture.
- Find egg roll wrappers in the refrigerated produce or Asian foods section; keep them covered while assembling to prevent drying.
Egg Roll Tips and Tricks
- Do not overstuff each wrapper; 3–4 tablespoons of filling is ideal.
- Use a deep-fry thermometer to maintain consistent oil temperature for best results.
- Fry in small batches so the oil temperature stays steady and the egg rolls stay crisp.
