Product review
This Masterbuilt 30-inch analog electric smoker comes with three chrome-coated cooking racks that provide roughly 547.8–548 square inches of usable cooking area. The unit is equipped with a 1,500-watt heating element that is controlled by a simple variable thermostat dial, allowing a temperature range from about 100°F up to 400°F.
The cabinet uses a dual-wall design — a double outer shell with an air gap between panels — and features a front-loading wood chip tray for easy smoke management. A removable water pan and a separate drip pan collect juices and help maintain moist cooking conditions; both are accessible for simple cleaning. The thermometer is mounted in the door so you can monitor interior temperature without opening the smoker.
Operation is straightforward: plug the smoker in, add chips to the tray, fill the water pan if desired, set the temperature dial and place food on the chrome racks. The removable drip tray under the unit simplifies cleanup. The construction and layout are intended to make low-and-slow smoking approachable, whether you’re preparing poultry, ribs, roasts, vegetables or plant-based proteins.
Pros
- Spacious cooking area with three chrome-coated racks
- Simple dial control and 100–400°F temperature range
- Front-loading chip tray plus removable water and drip pans
Cons
- Dual-wall air gap provides limited insulation in very cold weather
- Analog controller and element connections can be failure points
- Water tray capacity is modest for very long smoke sessions
VerdictThis 30-inch analog electric smoker delivers roomy capacity and straightforward operation: plug it in, set the dial and let it run. It offers useful features — three chrome-coated racks, a front-access wood chip tray, removable water and drip pans and a door thermometer — and a 100–400°F range powered by a 1,500-watt element. Expect good smoky results with minimal effort, though the cabinet’s dual

Absolutely worth owning for frequent use
I use this several times a week. The electric operation is simple once you get the hang of it. For steaks I use the high setting for about 20 minutes; ribs take several hours with heavy smoke for deep flavor. Very convenient and consistent for regular home smoking.

Produces great flavor; watch performance in freezing temps
Food tastes fantastic and operation is easy — just plug in and set the dial. I’ve made pulled pork, beer-can chicken and ribs that rival wood smokers. In freezing weather the cabinet can’t reach high temps, often topping out near 150°F at 27°F outdoors, so I sometimes transfer to an oven to finish. On warmer days it will approach 300°F without issue.

Spacious unit for large cooks
Arrived as described and holds a lot of meat. Great for family gatherings and extended smoking sessions.

Controller failed after some use — electrical issue
Initially it worked well, but later it struggled to heat and sometimes wouldn’t climb past low temperatures. I heard arcing from the analog controller and found the heating element connector had come apart. As someone experienced with electronics, I could see the connector had separated — this type of failure is frustrating and can leave you stranded for an event.

Good performance if you accept a few compromises
It performs well overall, but there are areas that could be improved without a big cost increase. The advertised “double wall” is really just a double shell with an air gap, not highly insulated, so you’ll notice heat loss in cold climates unless you compensate. If you live where temperatures drop often, you’ll have to adapt your technique. Still, for the price it provides useful capacity and decent results.

Keeps heat well in cooler weather after a minor fix
Once I bent some interior door metal back into position — it had jammed on first use — the smoker has maintained even temperatures in cool conditions. No other issues since that initial adjustment.

Roomy, well-designed and easy to assemble
Delivery and setup were quick and straightforward. The latch is solid — more reliable than the magnetic closures I had on a prior unit — and the simple temperature dial is durable. The interior space is noticeably larger than my previous smoker; an 18 lb turkey will fit far more comfortably. I did have a stripped screw on the handle, but customer service responded promptly and resolved it without hassle.

A solid entry-level smoker that holds its temp
I bought this after a bad experience with another brand. The three shelves are handy for staging different items and the adjustable thermostat keeps the interior stable in warm or cool weather. The water tray is on the small side but will last several hours and is simple to refill. There’s a floor drain and removable catch tray that minimizes mess. I’ve smoked ribs, pork roast, roast beef and many chickens with good, moist results.

Perfect starter for learning to smoke
I wanted to try smoking at home and picked an electric model for convenience. Assembly was nearly foolproof — just attach the legs — and it ran straight away. I smoked chicken wings and thighs that had a lovely, gentle smoke without being overpowering, and corn in the husk came out fantastic. I’ve also used it for vegetables and tofu with consistently satisfying results. Easy to use and great for experimenting.
